Training & Licences

I earned a Master of Education degree and a Doctor of Education degree in Counselling Psychology at OISE, University of Toronto.

I also hold Bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Sociology; and in Film Production.

My graduate training engaged me in current trends and ideas in individual psychotherapy, group process, family and couples counselling, professional ethics, brief counselling strategies (CBT and Solution-Focused) and critical diversity issues in counselling.

My doctoral training offered me coursework, clinical practica and internships in process experiential emotion-focused (PE/EFT), relational (e.g. interpersonal, intersubjectivity, and relational-cultural) approaches to psychotherapy in general, mixed psychotherapeutic approaches to working through complex (relational) trauma in particular, and clinical supervision.  My clinical practica and internships have taken place in hospital, community health care, and post-secondary settings.

My doctoral research focused on counsellor (therapist) development and the dynamics of power and intersubjectivity in clinical supervision relationships.  I recently successfully defended my doctoral dissertation entitled: Who Lives in Us and How? How Beginning Counsellors Experience Internal Representations of People who were Significant to their Clinical Development.

In addition to my graduate and doctoral work, I have completed training in:

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level I) – Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute

Narrative Therapy (Narrative Therapy Intensive and Narrative Therapy for Trauma) – Narrative Therapy Centre of Toronto

Art Therapy (workshop series) – Gestalt Institute of Toronto

Yoga Skills in Clinical Practice – Leading Edge Series

Yogic practice

I have been a student of yoga since 2012.   I have received training in pranayama (focus on breath work), pratyahara, and nada yoga (yoga of sound) from Toronto-based registered yoga teachers who studied in the Sivananda Vedanta tradition.  For the past 7 years, I have also received regular one-on-one instruction as part of my own yoga therapy from Toronto-based certified yoga therapists who studied in the direct lineage of T.K.V. Desikachar.   I bring this knowledge to the ways in which I listen in therapy, to the somatic work I do with clients, and as tools for identifying and understanding somatic countertransference as part of the clinical supervision I offer.

Professional Memberships and Associations

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).  I follow the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice of the CRPO.

I am also a “Canadian Certified Counsellor” registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

As a regular feature of my practice, I seek individual clinical consultation from another relational psychotherapist.  I am also part of a consultative network of psychotherapists working in private practice.
