I have provided psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families in post-secondary settings and community based primary care facilities. There as well as in my own practice, I have worked with people through issues such as:
- Feeling anxious, sad, irritable, or just “not yourself” in some way
- Difficult relationships with the body
- Loneliness, isolation
- Difficult or intrusive memories, “going blank”, disconnection, dissociation
- Difficult moods or feelings of intense sadness, shame, guilt or anger
- Childhood trauma or trauma in early/formative years
- Recent trauma in the context of a relationship
- Beginning to use tools of mindfulness and yoga** (such as breathwork, visualization/guided imagery)
- Relationships, boundaries, expectations and identity changes that accompany transitions in cultural, sex, gender identity and orientation, sexual orientation, health and ability
- Coming out and navigating sex/gender and sexual identity with family and loved ones, as well as institutions
- Being a partner, friend or family of someone who has come out
- Migration, culture shock, alienation, oppression and getting re-rooted
- Finding and thriving in LGBTQ communities, survivor communities, communities of colour, Indigenous and Black communities
- Becoming a caregiver
- Burnout and stress in the workplace in general, and in community-based activism and social service settings in particular
- Cyberbullying and online harassment
- Inhabiting multiple cultural identities while feeling “wrong” or like an outsider
- Adjusting to college/university culture, including social networks and expectations
- Academic challenges such as motivation, procrastination, feeling anxious being among school peers or in class, or completing assignments
- Career, life/work transitions
- Loss in relationships, including grief and bereavement
- Break ups and other relationship transitions
- Defining or re-defining your spiritual beliefs and practice
** I work in consultation with yoga teachers and yoga therapists, and I refer you to yoga teachers and yoga therapists to support or continue what we begin together.
